When you feel depressed, it’s often hard to see beyond the present day, and you can be less motivated to take care of yourself. This section provides support and information on how you can move forward.
Ways to make changes
The good news is that you can learn to manage your symptoms of depression. You have an important role in your recovery, as you know your mind better than anyone.
Next, you will learn methods that can help you manage your depression symptoms more effectively. Some of these may already be familiar to you, while others may be new.
Hopefully, you will find strategies that suit you and that you can use in daily life. The fact that you’re reading this text is already significant. You have clearly paused to think about your situation and are hoping for change.
Give yourself time to change
Motivation to make changes varies. Sometimes you may have more energy to make changes, and at other times less. Remember that this fluctuation is natural.
Still, make an agreement with yourself: try the guidance in this Self-Help Program and evaluate its usefulness only later.
In this section, you will receive tools to help you function better again and change how you think. Do the exercises according to which ones feel necessary for you. Remember to listen to your energy and limits.
Exercises are the most important part of a self-help program
Exercises are the core of the program. Through them, you can assess your situation and consider solutions for your situation.
In addition to reading the information, it’s important to do the exercises. By doing the exercises, you change from a reader to an active participant and move towards improving your situation.
How to do the exercises?
Some exercises take more time than others. However, the important thing is that you continue with the exercises, even if it seems challenging.
Some exercises need to be repeated several times, so the changes you make are more lasting.
Write down the exercises that you feel are particularly good and keep using them over time.
In the following video (1:21) you will get tips on how to complete the exercises in the Self-Help Program. At the same time, you will hear why you should consider keeping practicing.
