Self-help program

3. TIPS FOR THE FUTURE

The Self-Help Program for Concentration Difficulties is coming to an end. At this point, you can give yourself credit for sticking with the program and making it this far. Thank you for your perseverance in reading and completing the exercises this far!

Moving forward

Hopefully, you found information and exercises in this program that you found useful. Perhaps you have realized something important and are coping better with concentration difficulties than before. At the very least, you have taken important steps forward!

Practice makes perfect

As with learning any new skill, continuous practice is important when learning ways to help you concentrate. When you first practice using the skills you learned in this Self-Help Program in easier situations, they will gradually help you in more challenging situations as well.

Practice can be compared to learning to swim

First, you have to learn swimming techniques in shallow water, and then you strengthen your skills in a safe setting. Once you’ve developed the basics, you can also swim in more challenging settings, such as deeper water or in rougher weather.

Practice can be exhausting, especially in the beginning. That’s why it’s important to reward yourself in a way you’ll enjoy when you’ve practiced a particular skill, for example, for a week.

Think about what kind of reward you’d enjoy. Examples of rewarding yourself include listening to your favorite music, reading a book, spending a relaxing evening, or calling a friend. The important thing is to find a way that works best for you.
