Self-help program
2. TOOLS
Changing your habits takes initiative and commitment. These very things may be difficult for you.
Practice can be challenging – don’t get discouraged
It may be hard to find motivation to practice. The strategies you try might not work immediately, and sometimes it can be difficult to stick with them. Some people experience boredom or the urge to give up. This is common and does not reduce the benefits of practicing.
Every insight is a step forward
Not everything can be changed, and not everything needs to be changed. Since time and energy are limited, focus on the exercises that are most helpful for you right now.
Even the fact that you’re reading this text is meaningful. It means you have taken a moment to reflect on your situation and are hoping for change.
Exercises are the most important part of the Self-Help Program
It’s important that, in addition to reading the information, you also do the exercises. By doing the exercises, you move from being a reader to an active participant. This way, you take steps toward improving your situation.
How are the exercises done?
Some exercises take more time than others. However, the important thing is to continue working with them, even if it feels challenging.
Some exercises need to be repeated enough times for the changes you make to become more lasting.
It’s a good idea to note the exercises you find particularly helpful and return to them regularly over the long term.
In the following video (1:21), you will get tips on how to do the exercises in the Self-Help Program. At the same time, you will hear why it’s worth committing to practicing.
Allow time for change
Make an agreement with yourself: try these self-help guidelines and evaluate their usefulness only later. Do the exercises based on which ones you feel you need. Remember to listen to your own resources.
